Is this a good or a bad thing?!? (Every builder's company I've had
contact with recently has taken at least twice the time they quoted to
finish the job!)

If you're a newbie to freelancing, a good rule of thumb is to work out
how long you expect to need for a project, and double it. That was
one of the first tips I picked up, and it's working so far! :)
