6) If it comes to court you'll be able to sue them for =A32,500 - the =20
magistrate may make you settle for =A31000. If you sue them for =A320 =
it =20
isn't worth your while.

That is, if they don't have a half decent lawyer themselves. In the =
event
that they do remove the picture on receipt of your letter, they could =
then
claim that the copyright owner was not clearly identified from the site =
that
they acquired it from (hard to disprove), and that they had mistakenly
assumed it was in the public domain.
Personally think in this case the magistrate is then less likely to side
with a 1k claim, in the even that they do take immediate action to =
remove
the pictures and then claim "honest mistake 'guv". =20
You may get 150 quid plus costs... =20
You may get jack if you can't prove you took reasonable steps to protect
your own copyright.
And no, I'm NOT on the side of the thieves, and DO have sympathy.
By the way, does anyone know the status of hotlinked images? I was =
under
the impression you can't be sued if you're hotlinking, as you are not
storing a copy..
Cheers,
James
