If you have another PC with a CDR drive you can download a Knoppix
distribution that will boot off the CD Rom and let you access any
non-corrupted parts of the hard disk from there.

I assume you've tried running in safe mode? If not, try getting into safe
mode and restoring the system to a previous stable set-up. If it is xp try
reinstalling windows next to your existing installa...

Many email programs don't display external images and many spam filters also

These are flash or graphics. By default Win PC's have text smoothing
