Hi All.
Heres a little thing I sent out to all my customers today. Thought I =
would
send it to the forum. It might be of some use. Remember guys this is
intended to be informal and non-techie so don=92t rip the P*/* :-)
Right folks spring is nearly here :-) and I cant wait till the warmer
weather.
But with spring comes a little spring cleaning. So here=92s my guide to
cleaning your PC. Please if I haven=92t shown you this before have a =
go. I
promise your machine will work a little fast and smoother.

Cleaning your machine and making sure your completely Safe.=20
Firstly and fore mostly I hope you all have virus protection. For those =
of
you that don=92t have virus protection or have virus protection that=92s =
run out
of its subscription I highly recommend AVG Free Edition.=20

At the bottom of the webpage you will see the link to download the =
windows
version of the software. Please feel free to download it and install it =
onto
your machine. Its free remember.
I=92ve tested this against the best and found it to be awesome and much =
better
at detecting viruses than some of the most expensive virus protection
programs out there.
Make sure your PC is set to scan for virus=92s everyday and ensure that =
your
virus definitions are up to date. For those of you that don=92t know =
about
virus definitions here=92s a little info=85
Virus definitions are basically sent out by the virus protection =
companies
on a daily basis in order to keep up with the constant threat of =
viruses. In
order for your machine to be protected against the daily threat you need =
to
download these definitions and tell your machine what it needs to be on =
the
look out for.=20
So hopefully you=92re protected against viruses.
Next thing to protect yourself against is Worms and hackers and the =
likes.
These are things that look for open ports in your computer. The thing to =
do
here is have a good firewall. Windows XP comes with a good firewall. =
You
can check to see if your firewall is turned on by clicking on =
Start>Control
Panel>Windows Firewall. ( the default for xp is to have the firewall =
off in
Service Pack 1, But service pack 2 makes the firewall active and default =
to
on) The dot should be in the ON position. It should be in the off =
position
if you have Norton Internet Security running or Zone Alarm or any other
firewall for that matter. Its very Important that you only have one
firewall running on your machine at any given time. If you have two or =
three
running it can cause more problems than anything else and probably cause
harm rather than good. So in essence I=92m saying only have ONE =
firewall. If
you have Windows 98/95 you can get zone alarm firewall for free from the
link below.

Make sure your windows updates are completely up-to-date.=20
Go to Start>Control Panel>Automatic Updates. Make sure your machine is =
set
to download and install updates automatically. Then click on the =
=93windows
update website=94 link or click here http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ =
to
see what updates are available to you. As long as you have an original =
copy
of windows you will be fine. If your version of windows is pirated you =
wont
be able to get updates.
Updates are important as hackers are always trying to hack into windows =
xp
and as soon as Microsoft are aware of a hole they send out updates to =
fix
the holes.
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spybot search and destroy basically looks for things advert popup style
programs that might be lurking on your machine. It also looks for =
registry
errors and any programs that might be tracking your web usage. It=92s a =
great
tool for getting shot of anything unwanted on your machine. You should =
use
this in conjunction with another program called Adaware SE but we will =
come

Doing all of the above will help you in the long run keep your machine =
tip
top and stop you from calling me out L I know. It doesn=92t make sense =
