I assume you've tried running in safe mode? If not, try getting into safe
mode and restoring the system to a previous stable set-up. If it is xp try
reinstalling windows next to your existing installation, select a different
location from the orginial (eg c/windows2 as opposed to c/windows ), make
sure of course not to wipe the drive, all your existing file structure will
remain intact. When windows reboots you should get options to load one of
two windows installations, selct the 2nd one (or one that works!) then get
the files you need onto portable media and reinstall windows properly. Hope
