I really don't think it's just personal preference. A well-trimmed
reply with text interleaved with the text that it's replying to is
better than a top-posted reply in many ways.

However, we're now in a world where the vast majority of people don't
use the one true way of replying to email and continuing to fight
against top-posters in those circumstances is just a waste of
everybody's time.

It's like complaining about HTML mail - completely pointless.

There are far more important things to worry about. Let it go.
