Umm, being someone who ran my own BBS and a quite successful Amiga based
Fido-like forum network for a number of years back in the 90's I think I can
tell you for sure that it was.. If you had a 1200/1200 baud modem (Or even
slower) back then you would understand that all that extra text made a big
difference to how fast you could view a message and if you're a BBS and
doing nightly net mail transfers all the extra text resulted in much longer
telephone calls and telephone bills. What I was saying is that is where the
convention ORIGINALLY came from and is why it no longer applies these days
being as bandwidth is not such a concern.
I also would like to say that the "Rules For Posting" on the so called "work
alone wiki" are NOT official rules of this forum and never have been, so I
wish people would stop touting them about like they are...
