FN-FORUM: XP Services failing to start

Anyone seen this recently? A XP Pro laptop where several services fail
to start at boot up, including Server, Audio, ICS and so on.

The services start fine manually from the Services Applet and from the
command prompt. There is no trace of trouble in the event log. But the
event log is not logging the startup/shutdowns either. And it is
configured to log most things.

The machine has Norton 2007 - I'm suspicious. Any ideas before I get the
XP install disks out.
