Long shot, do you have "nero incd" installed and running in the background?
I had the same problem but on my desktop, turned out to be Nero incd,
once i uninstalled it , all was well.

you could try cleaning the laser, i had a similar problem with my
desktop machine.
It may be something else completely, but that worked for me.
