FN-FORUM: ePos & e-Commerce Recommendations
date posted 13th October 2006 15:43
Hi,
I'm after some recommendations.
One of my clients is opening a high street retail outlet along with an
accompanying website. They would like to use a centralised epos solution
for the in-store till which also allows access to external systems i.e. the
website so that all the stock levels and ordering etc is live.
The ideal setup would be to have the data hosted in a central (possibly
remote) location with the current and any future retail outlets using the
same data. The website would then be able to interrogate the data and place
orders ideally through an API or SP's. The database platform is largely
irrelevant with MS SQL and MySQL both an option.
Finding such a viable solution without breaking the bank is proving to be
difficult for them. They have sourced one solution that uses MS SQL but
I've just had a conversation with someone who claimed to be technical, and I
think I lost them when I got onto replication. This particular option also
uses a SQL database for the till and a separate offline Access database for
the stock management so I'm not holding out much hope for it.
Before I go a'googlin' I thought I'd ask if anyone here knows of any epos
systems that allows such external access...
Ta for you help.
Darren.
