RE: FN-FORUM: PCG Membership Opinions

date posted 13th October 2006 23:05

Greetings from a lurker

When I was contracting , prior to 9/11 I was a member of the PCG. I joined
about a month after it first formed being on of the first 700 who joined. If
I ever went back to contracting I'd rejoin without hesitation.
Unlike the FSB, of which I was also a member the PCG have done more to shore
up the IT industry in this country than any other organisation. It is
through their efforts that most IT skills are not on the Governments list
for immigration bypass after the PCG's membership proved that putting them
on the list in the first place had a detrimental affect on UK small
business, that's most of you who read and post on this forum btw.
Apart from anything else, they're the ones responsible for spotting and
attempting to stop most of this governments anti-business practices - not
that I'm biased in anyway.

After all to coin a phrase from 2000 to have a knowledge based indusrty
requires a knowledge based government and according to this one you're only
in business if you make widgets.

Subject: FN-FORUM: PCG Membership Opinions

Hi all,

In a similar vain to yesterdays threads on Business Link memberships
etc, I would like to hear peoples thoughts on whether PCG membership has
brought them any real value or not.

I am considering becoming a member, but am not convinced yet that it is
worth the cash, and would like to hear others thoughts on them and their
values etc.

I am guessing most of the work they do representing contractors at a
government level is quite low profile, and mostly promoted to existing
members, so any feedback/experience that any of you have on this side of
membership would be appreciated as well.

Also, things like how often you use the benefits etc will give me an
idea as to the cost benefit of joining this "Not for profit" contractor
association...

Regards

Tim
