Hostgator use cPanel so your files will upload into
/home//public_html or something like that. The username is a
variable because you have a reseller account you will have created this
yourself. Have you tried logging into cPanel for your domain and using
the FileManager to view the files?
As for domains, the prices will vary depending on the TLD handling (in
the case of org.uk or co.uk this is Nominet). These can be registered
almost anywhere and pointed at your hostgator space. If you complain to
Hostgator about domains they will like as not ignore you, because they
don't offer domain registration directly.
