I agree with Peter that there are a hell of a lot of factors influencing how well you do. Freelancing is never going to be the safe option, but I have to say I've not had a month yet when I haven't earned anything.

Support should be a huge thing in your decision. My partner has been a great support to me, however we are at a point in our relationship where we want to be able to save up and do all the grown-up things like buy a house and a few others, all which need money. This has all acted to put a lot of pressure on me to make sure I bring in enough cash and if I did it again I think I would have put off freelancing till I had more savings.

Just my little old thoughts!
