Re: FN-FORUM: SBS 2003 Backup Issue
date posted 19th January 2007 20:54
If you are using BackupAssist, you need to upgrade the version or don't
use the open file doodah.
What user account is running the backup? Is it THE administrator? It's
better create a user to run the backup and make that user a member of
backup users.
Are there any errors in the event logs?
You should exclude the virus quarantine folder - you're not going to
want to restore it.
Here is quote from MS tech support from SBS newsgroup on that problem
(you should read microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs - it's moderated by
MS and MVPs)
"Thanks for using SBS newsgroup.
Issue description:
==============
I understand that you encountered a problem when backup your SBS system.
Analyzing and suggestion:
===============
Generally speaking, you can use SBS 2003 backup to backup your system
without any problem. In order to narrow down the issue, we need to
gather
more information on this issue:
1. We have seen some issue that backup users has no permission to access
COM+ Class Registration Database and it proved to be the third party
applications, such as some Open File Manager Service. So please check it
on
the SBS Server to see if it is installed. If it is, uninstall it and try
again to see how everything is going.
If the issue still exists, compress and email me the following two
folders
and please let me know when the issue occurred the last time.
C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data
C:\program files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support\Backup
Logs
2. Please also check your event view to paste any related error event to
newsgroup.
3. Please also test if you run NTBackup to backup your SBS system are
there
any problem occurred?
More info:
===========
Also based on my experience, this issue can be caused by some third
party
applications installed on the computer. We had been reported the
"Computer
Associates (CA) Unicenter 3.1 services", OpenFileManager, IBM's Tivoli
TSM
v. 5.2 will cause the issue like this. Do you have such applications
installed on the computer?

I appreciate your time on this issue; please feel free to post back. I
am
glad to be of further assistance.
Best regards,
Charles Yang (MSFT) "
