I'd guess it's more a resolution problem. You can overcome that by
making it a liquid layout that will expand and contract depending on the
resolution and browser size. It's quite a subject so you may have
trouble getting it fully explained on here but there's some good
tutorials online-google liquid css layouts or similar. A starting point
for you might be http://www.alistapart.com/articles/negativemargins/ or
http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/liquid/ - I've probably got a
load of other tutorials somewhere from when I was learning them if you
want to get in touch
I don't know what your layout is like but alternatively you could try
centering the main body to equalise the gap on both sides.
