FN-FORUM: AJAX... Is it worth it?

I'm sure i'll get lots of mixed opinions on this one but what does everyone
think about the use of AJAX? I have just been reading up about it and
although it seems useful i was just wondering whether it was safe to use or
not?

The major drawback seems to be that some people dont have javascript turned
on which could essentially ruin the whole page. are there any ways around
this?

I've also heard that it can be quite slow. Is this true?
