I've not come across anything recently but I find png's give me the best
outcome, they look clean and crisp!
But in terms of web graphics to be good for print isn't that great of an
idea, most likely your web graphics will be 72 resolution where as
resolution for print is 300 so if I've understood your question right I
would have a small png version which still looks nice for web and the an
alternative high resolution graphic available maybe via a link to a high
quality print version, maybe in pdf??
