SpiderMonkey (http://www.mozilla.org/js/spidermonkey/) which allows you to make javascript calls into C, then Gestalt (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gestalt) which can be called from C even though written in Eiffel. I am not sure if this is easier or more "standard" than java though!
