Re: FN-FORUM: PHP Programmer's done a runner

RoR is just another language and framework. I doubt there's anything
that RoR can do that PHP can't do, looking at it practically, and I
gather RoR is complex to retro-fit into an existing process because of
the way it abstracts persistence.
PHP suffers from being a language that is slightly cobbled together,
and used in a haphazard way by unqualified people, but actually it's
very powerful and is in use by very large organisations in a
production environment, such as the BBC, the Open University and O2,
to name a few.
It all comes down to experience, and unfortunately, I suspect that
this forum attracts hobbyist developers looking to make a bit of money
on the side quite often, which is not what you want if you're looking
for someone to get the job done for you.
Personally, I reckon that the Zend qualification actually might have
some benefit for PHP developers, which is why I'm taking it myself.
Unlike the Sun Java certification, which I don't see as being quite as
useful to convince others of domain knowledge.
