FN-FORUM: Any DNS Experts around?
date posted 16th October 2007 00:41
After scratching my balding head for hours today I have come to the
conclusion that I have a DNS problem on one of our servers.
The scenario : New server purchased from a reputable UK host, Cpanel/WHM
installed. Transfered accounts from a PLESK based server within the same
host company. Edited nameservers and advised clients that they needed to
change their username in their mail client to be in the format
[EMAIL REMOVED] rather than just username as previously. Now, the really
annoying thing is that my email account works fine, but the bosses doesn't
(never a good thing)
I've had a look via DNSStuff and have found that a DNS Lookup shows a
strange (to me at least) answer:
Domain
domain.com NS IN 86400 ns1.domain.net.domain.com
domain.com NS IN 86400 ns2.domain.net.domain.com
Obviously I've replaced the proper domain with the word "domain" but the
.net tld is supposed to be the nameserver, so where does the additional
domain.com come from?
It looks odd to me, especially when I checked other domains on the same
server and they all showed, as I anticipated, ns1.domain.net only
Any guidance, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Allan
