FN-FORUM: Question for graphic designers
date posted 29th October 2007 12:48
I know next to nothing about image formats, BTW.
I have to create PDF from a Word doc (either Acrobat or Ghostscript,
doesn't matter, and probably not relevant) that contains a PNG graphic
supplied by the author. The requirement is B&W not colour. The graphic
was created in InDesign on a Mac - it has boxes with a shadow effect
rather like the built-in smart art glow effect in Word 2007. Looks fine
on screen and IrfanView reports that it is 300 dpi. I import into Word
at 100% size and it looks fine on screen. When I print at either 300 or
600 dpi, it looks terrible - every dot visible. When I print to PDF
(using any quality), it looks even worse and has no shadow effect
either.
I need to fix this either by getting the author to redo the graphic or
by using different settings. Anyone got any ideas or tips.
If I open the PNG in IrfanView, the background changes to black and I
don't know how to fix it. I don't have or no how to use Photoshop.
Any help gratefully received.
