FN-FORUM: Succesful ways to advertise - that don't cost much!

Hi all

This is a first significant post so bear with me while I get to the point.

I am trying to work out the best way for me to advertise my freelance services, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions - including do nots - for effective places to advertise on a very limited budget.

I am a specialised information designer; this means that I deal with the design, language and overall usability of documents with complicated information like forms, instructions and financial information, rather than more traditional aesthetic focused design. There's more information at http://www.roberthempsall.com I have plenty of experience in the field, but because of its specialised nature I'm left rather naive about the world of marketing and advertising.

If anyone has any words of wisdom, they would be very gratefully received.
