It is true to say that various search engines do indeed look at server
location and also the DNS that looks after the domain's location. Google fo=
r
instance has a radioi button saying "Pages from the UK" and will show
results for that country only based on IP address.
We worked on a large multi-country/language website for several years and m=
y
ears bleed from the SEO assigned to the job telling us we should have
servers in every country we were represented in over and over again. The
client was too tight to do it though and getting domains and servers in
other countries and managing them was a bit onerous. (14 languages and
something like 20 countries).
