RE: FN-FORUM: What documents should a web-designer deliver?

I usually get the designer to create a .psd file only, and then I =
recreate
it using css etc. Ive found in the past that if you leave it up to the
'designer' to create the physical html for the page, that its creates =
way
too many problems as they can't possibly know how you are going to =
develop
the site. Plus a lot of the time they simply don=92t have the experience =
of
building even a static website from the html template they have created.
I worked with designers who've charged thousands for a design and it was
really sloppy. I basically had to start the whole thing from scratch and
simply use their design as a visualisation.

Subject: FN-FORUM: What documents should a web-designer deliver?
Suppose one had to produce output for a site-makeover design. The site =
has=20
18 pages, of moderate (to sometimes complex) complexity with 80% dynamic =
pages.
1) The client wants pages to link to pages in such a way that site-users =
are
drawn in to use all the site. [The two most commonly landed on pages are =
the
home page and report page. The home page after login and the report page =
after clicking through from the daily email alert they get regarding new =
reports].
2) The client wants to get the look and feel of a financial site =
typically=20
used by city types. [i.e. serious looking and conservative]
3) The client isn't sure that he'd go with the first design so he =
requests 3
or 4 schematic outlines.
For a top quality design, how long would the initial design proposal =
take to
put together and what would it look like when finished. E.g. What =
documents=20
would it contain?
How long would the detailed design take and what would it consist of? =
PDF=20
pictures of each page no doubt. Would a top quality detailed design also =
include actual html/css/graphics too? If so how long would the detailed=20
design take with and without the html/css/graphics. The designer is not=20
being asked to do any database or server-side coding.
Apologies. I can't let people view this site without the client's=20
permission. It's subscription only.
PS: This is not something I need to know to deliver work. I'm just =
asking=20
what the client should expect from another contracted web-designer. I'm =
not=20
a 'designer' as such, although I understand more than some of them; I =
don't=20
pretend to be up there with the best.
