That's because it is a server.

I'd suggest following the advice I gave you last month:

"apt-get" is great if you know what you want and how to get it, but synapti=

makes it a hell of a lot easier for the less experienced user to choose and=

install packages.
Do you have a monitor for it? =C2=A0If not, you can "borrow" one for instal=
lation
and once it's up and running use VNC to get to the desktop.
Or be prepared to spend lots of time learning Unix / Linux sysadmin stuff.
Or give somebody some money to do it for you.
