Yikes! That was clever. ;)
AFAIK you can restore the iPhone to a factory setup using iTunes on Mac or PC.
Just launch iTunes and plug the phone into the USB. iTunes will
automatically detect it and launch a summary page for sync settings.
On the right of the screen will be two buttons - one which checks for
newer versions of the firmware and another labelled "Restore".
Simply checking for the new firmware may do the job. But if not
restoring would seem your best option before contacting Apple or
resorting to a jail-break and invalidating the warrenty.
Restore may wipe everything off the phone so your client should back
probably up whatever they can to their PC first.
If they've taken any pictures with the camera these can be retrieved
on mass using Windows via Start > My computer > Cameras and Scanners.
An iPhone icon appears here when the phone is plugged in allowing
access to the Camera Roll as a mountable directory.
