The problem with having a "recommended host(s)" list is that:
a) A number of members of the list provide hosting services (Neogic
included), meaning selecting a "best" provider is pretty subjective /
controversial.
=20
b) Often the "best" provider varies significantly according to the
enquirer's individual service requirements; e.g., "cheap and cheerful", =
"X%
guaranteed up-time" (SLA), desired redundancy/performance levels,
bandwidth/disk space requirements, geographic location of target
market/client business, etc.
For example, Neogic specialises in *fully managed* UK hosting, where =
we
take of site deployment, database configuration, on-going management, =
etc
for clients. This makes us more expensive than a DIY service like =
ServWise,
for example, but meets the needs of a different market.
c) The web hosting market, like most web-based services, changes =
rapidly
from year-to-year, with previously high quality services showing growing
pains (server overloading, slow support), new suppliers entering the =
market,
etc.
What *would* be useful (e.g., on Tony's WAUK FAQ) would be a listing of
requirements factors to consider when selecting a hosting supplier (see =
'b'
above)?
Cheers, Ben
