Or does FREE not count as FREE simply because that doesn=E2=80=99t fit =
with your perception of Microsoft?

Absolutely! It's about preference, choice and what's fit for your =
intended purpose. However on a slight path of disagreement, i've gotta =
point out that .Net can now be developed with FREE software developed by =
Microsoft that doesn=C3=A2=E2=82=AC=E2=84=A2t generate them income. .Net =
hosting can be purchased at similar prices to php hosting. Therefore the =
only possible avenue for Microsoft making money from .Net is that of the =
hosting company buying licenses for windows server. However they have to =
do that for any commercially used linux (etc) server platform. So still =
there is no difference in this respect.
Obviously this is a slightly simplified argument, but i think it still =
stands. Unless of course you argue that you'd rather give money to a =
smaller(ish) Linux server development company than the mighty Microsoft. =
In which case i can see your argument and actually support it, as i =
myself normally prefer to give my money to local shops than the likes of =
Tesco etc.
However i still think .Net rocks! But that's my choice and so be it. Not =
really worth arguing over.

I would suggest playing around with some open source Content =20
Management Systems. I personally use Drupal, and have never looked =20
back. There are also other systems hat are easier to learn like =20
Wordpress. I have also heard some good things about Expression =20
Engine, although it's commercial, and I tend to favor open source =20
projects like PHP.
I don't think that you can really compare PHP to .NET, because they =20
are two different things, one is a programming language and the other =20
an application framework. I'd rather use an open source programming =20
language and help to make it better, than help Microsoft make more =20
money. This is just my personal opinion, no disrespect to .NET =20
developers.
