FN-FORUM: IIS Forward Request to Another Server
date posted 6th February 2008 15:53
To start with, please don't ask why as I've already been through this the
client.
Anyhow, here's the scenario a client of ours has several Windows based
servers with each running their own set of applications and some of these
have web enabled applications such as Exchange. The client currently has one
IP address and a few ports open on their firewall and Routing & Remote
Access handles all the incoming requests and forwards the relevant ports to
the relevant machines. So far so good, however the client now wants to
re-direct some traffic on port 80 to one server and some traffic to another
depending upon the host header which can be set-up in IIS.
We've already suggested to them that they either open another port, or sort
out some sort of VPN, but the client is adamant that because you can already
configure different host headers in IIS to display different websites you
can also do this to send the request to a completely different server. I've
had a look round in IIS and cannot see anything, just wondered whether
anyone knew if this is possible
