Terrible idea! Clients want and expect a rough guide to your typical =
prices
(which vary hugely in our industry); they are far more likely to move on =
to
the next supplier if there is no indication of pricing.=20
Just think of those irritating "software solution" sites, with no clue =
to
how much you can expect to pay (are we talking =A3500 or =A3100k?!).=20
I'll also single out photographers as being terrible on this front - =
most
will have "contact us for a quote", with no indication of typical prices
for, e.g., a wedding shoot. A friend of mine bucks this trend by giving
clear package examples; she enjoys regular work through her website as a
result.
Of course you cannot anticipate individual requirements and therefore it =
is
difficult to offer fixed priced packages. But by giving an indication of
typical cost (hourly rates don't really help), you reassure clients with =
a
realistic budget and filter out those that are looking for "e-Bay for =
=A3200".
We have packages on our site, but clients *very* rarely approach us =
saying
"I'll have package X". Packages just serve as a guideline, then you =
provide
a bespoke quote.
Cheers, Ben
