I wouldn't discount Actinic as a bad solution. Your problem is that you
need to get your head around the template files. It produces a more than
adequate commerce site and allows the client to manage the selling of
items effectively. Admittedly there are some short falls (stock
management), but I haven't looked at the latest version to see what it does.
Remember all the templates are very customisable, but like anything, it
does take time to understand them and get your head round them.
What I would say is that osCommerce brings another layer of complexity
that you may not want and will require a lot more effort on your part
than sorting out a couple of actinic template files.
