You can customise to your heart's content with both systems.
It depends on your ability to code and if you want a table free site or
not (OSC is tables within tables within tables etc - Zen cart is
relatively table free).

Personally I prefer Zen cart for ease of use although it is a little bit
constricting if you really need to push it to it's limits.
