It may well be page files doing all this, but would be suspect if it does it
while doing nothing.
One thing you can try with Vista is using a ReadyBoost compatible USB Flash
drive 4GB + will give you a flash based disk cache rather than the hard
drive and apparently improves performance.
MS have now admitted Vista is a work in progress while they bring out the
next version of Windows (Windows 7) sometime next year. Gits.
