My first real computer experience (leaving aside the horrors of
mainframes, FORTRAN and punch-cards) was with a Commodore PET. My PhD
supervisor somehow got a couple of these given to him and he brought
them in one day and said "figure out what you can do with these
things". Needless to say the first thing was playing Star Trek. Great
machine - 4kb memory, cassette drive, monochrome. Actually, no it
wasn't, what am I saying, it was a terrible machine. But I suppose it
started me on computing and so couldn't have been that bad.
