Summary

In May 2011 I left my position as Senior Designer at Bang Design (Part of Venue Publishing) to start up Graphic Bubble. During my time at Venue I produced work for a varied client base, including South West Business Magazine, Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Colston Hall, Arnos Vale Cemetery and the Diocese of Bath and Wells to name a few. I was also responsible for the design of the new monthly Venue magazine that relaunched in May 2011.

I believe that my creative background, experience and flexible rates make me a highly suitable choice for clients. I can provide very competitive quotes for both design and print, with the added incentive that I am not VAT registered so no VAT charges apply. I am committed to building up professional relationships and I am always open to offering expert advice and guidance.

Whether it is print-based literature, advertising, branding, websites or flyers, I always apply a huge amount of ideas with the same measure of hard work, professionalism and creativity. To date my clients with Graphic Bubble include Kew Gardens, Diocese of Bath and Wells, Cadbury Cars, Figo Furniture, Kellaway Hire Services and Razor Fitness.

Portfolio

Razor Fitness - Logo & Website

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/razor-fitness.html

Logo and website design for Andy Reay, ex England under 21, Premiership, and now Championship rugby player. Using Andy's rugby nickname 'Razor' I created an identity that was modern, slick and conveyed Andy's hard working attitude to fitness. I put particular emphasis on the 'z' and felt that in fitness terms it could also represent being 'Razor sharp'.

Trees for Life Appeal - Logo

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/trees-for-life.html

Logo designs for Temwa's Trees for Life Appeal , I've provided some of the initial concepts here as well as the final three designs they selected, the final logo chosen was the top one. The campaign launched on the 27th June 2011. They aim to raise £25,000, which will make a huge impact in Malawi – allowing them to plant over 100,000 trees and educate a community of 28,000 people about the care and importance of trees, as well as distributing fuel-efficient stoves and increasing food security through the fruit trees they plant.

Ri&i Co Ltd - Logo, Cards & Brochure

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/riico.html

Design of the corporate identity, business cards and brochures for a local inventory services company. The client required a modern, stylish logo that was also quite playful and not too "corporate looking". I developed an identity using a bright green with the introduction of greys for the less important information, Ronda has been used as the main font. This style has been developed across the business card and brochure designs with the introduction of an additional darker blue / green for the background colour.

Manna - Magazine

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/manna.html

A quarterly, A4, 24 page publication for the Diocese of Bath & Wells that I now produce for Graphic Bubble. This is a clean, spaciously designed magazine that compliments the branding style of the Diocese in its use of colours and fonts. It is thoughtfully designed for it's large target audience with clear labelling and colouring of sections throughout.

Venue - Magazine

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/venue-magazine.html

My last brief with Bang design was to completely re-design Venue magazine (Bristol and Bath's what's on guide) for it's monthly re-launch in May 2011. After financial difficulty and restructuring of staff the decision was made to move from weekly to monthly. A complete restructure of the magazine took place as it would now be attached to Folio magazine (Venue publishing's lifestyle magazine). Both publications meet in the middle at the food and drink section and both are the opposite way around, so there are two separate covers. Venue contains mostly the same sections as before in Film, Music, Clubs, Theatre, etc but the listings are now available online. It was important for me to provide a design that didn't alienate existing reader's whilst provided a fresh appealing design that would reinvigorate the publication and attract new readers and advertisers.

South West Business - Magazine

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/south-west-business.html

Whilst with Bang Design I was responsible for the design and production of South West Business magazine. This monthly publication is a slightly squarer shape, much like American magazines. This gave it a great deal of character and provided enormous flexibility in the design approach. It was based loosely on The New Statesman at the request of the client and provides a very clean editorial style throughout. Pictures are used large where possible, particularly within the features and entire columns are used for single quotes providing a spacious design approach. The magazine was launched in March 2009 and continues to thrive despite the tough economic environment.

Jasmine Main - Business Cards

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/jasmine-main.html

A business card design for an independent Bristol based Interior Design Consultant. The client requested a very kitch, stylish card to reflect her area of expertise. I used inspiration from the many interesting shop window displays designed by the client and introduced bird cages and stylish floral elements to provide the desired effect.

Gathering Voices - Programme

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/gathering-voices.html

An A5, 16 page programme for Gathering Voices - Festival of Song, a showcase for groups spanning vocal genres from classical, contemporary and gospel to world, roots and sacred, not to mention sea shanties... I wanted to provide a design with lots of different colours to reflect the diversity of the event and the liveliness of the performances. The colouring also helps the reader to identify the different styles of performances and with the dark background these colours are given more weight and really lift the design off the page.

Bristol Balloon Fiesta - Programme

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/balloon-fiesta.html

During my time with Bang Design I was responsible for the design of several big event programmes in the local area. This includes the Bristol Balloon Fiesta held at Ashton Court, Bristol every year. This is an A5 programme, 32 pages in size with a map of the site on the middle dps. Although the design was dictated largely in terms of colours and fonts by the corporate style guidelines provided, there was a degree of flexibility in terms of the layout and image usage.

Glastonbury Extravaganza - Programme

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/glastonbury-extravaganza.html

An A4, 20 page programme for the Glastonbury Extravaganza concerts at the Abbey, featuring performances by Madness, Steve Harley and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few. The programme contained two covers and flipped vertically so that one half was upside down to the other. This meant that there were two covers, one for the Saturday performances and one for the Sunday. I've used silhouettes of the Abbey and the crowd with vibrant colours and big pictures used throughout.

Ashton Court Summer Nights - Promo Work

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/ashton-court-summer.html

Identity and promotional literature for a new event takng place at The Ashton Court Estate, Bristol in the summer of 2010. A series of three family friendly summer concerts were being arranged with headline acts including Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, The Magic of Motown and The Bootleg Beatles. As this was a summer family event I wanted to create a vibrant design reflecting this. I have used bright colours throughout, incorporated floral elements and I've also introduced fireworks behind the main identity as displays were planned over the three nights. The work included posters, a DL leaflet and promotional banners for the venue itself.

Arnos Vale Cemetery - Guidebook

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/arnos-vale-cemetery.html

During my time with Bang Design I was given a unique opportunity to produce work for Arnos Vale Cemetery after they received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. This included improving their visual identity and designing a visitor's guidebook and trail leaflets. Arnos Vale is an amazing place and I found it full of inspiration for the designs. I took several trips to the Cemetery, walking along many of it's paths and took lots of pictures on site. It was easy to gain ideas from the ivy growing over tombstones, the fine detail on the graves or the lovely typefaces of different periods. Some of these were traced and adapted for use in the guidebook. The guidebook is A5 in size, there are 32 inner pages with a fold-out cover on both the front and back that contains a map and additional information. All illustration work was produced by Simon Gurr with editorial content by Eugene Byrne.

I took several trips to the Cemetery, walking along many of it's paths and took lots of pictures on site. It was easy to gain ideas from the ivy growing over tombstones, the fine detail on the graves or the lovely typefaces of different periods. I was required to provide a visual icon to act as an extension of the existing Arnos Vale logo that provided them with a stronger identity. The idea was that this could then be used and adapted for use within the structure of their existing logo (Their existing logo contained just the wording).

http://www.graphicbubble.co.uk/work/portfolio/remix.html
